Text and data mining

Text and data mining (TDM) – what is it?

The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) define TDM as: ‘The use of automated analytical techniques to analyse text and data for patterns, trends and other useful information’.

Text and data mining rely on copying large quantities of digital content. This could be your own or 3rd party data.

N.B. Certain publisher websites state they prohibit TDM.  This is misleading as in the UK  Text and Data Mining for non-commercial use cannot be overridden by contract. Please contact the Library for guidance.
