Library databases

Researching financial market data and deals information can be tricky through the library resources, as we are not able to licence products such as Bloomberg and Refinitiv for Alumni use. However listed below are some services that do offer some of this type of content, as well as some freely available resources.

MarketLine Advantage (Alumni)
In 2014, MarketLine added a Financial Deals Tracker database to its service. It covers M&A, PE, VC etc. and offers, news headlines, charts on industry and geographic distribution of deals etc.. as well as a screening facility to find deals based on certain criteria.
To access this content, once in MarketLine select Databases>Deals.

Mergent Online (Alumni)
Under a company record you can change the business history display to just show completed acquisitions and/ or completed mergers. Please note the deal value is sometimes available, but no other data.
Up to 30 years daily price data available for US equities. View data as a report in order to download. Shorter histories for non-US listed equities.
Mergent also contains historical price data for commodities markets, government bond yields (for some countries) and exchange rate data.

Proquest ABI/INFORM (Alumni)
Contains Global Data Deals and Alliances reports for several sectors including Energy and Healthcare. These reports cover deals by type e.g. M&A, PE, Asset Finance etc.. Also contains Commodity price forecasts from Oxford Economics.

Google Finance
Find news, current stock and exchange rates. For companies can download historical prices, view an Option Chain and 4 years worth of financials. There is also a stock screener.
M&A information from the ONS
Information and data from the UK's Office for National Statistics on deals involving UK companies.
Yahoo Finance
Contains news. Can download historical price data for companies. Back to 1970 for some US corporations (1988) for UK). Financials available, but cannot be downloaded. Likewise Options information. Has info on latest analyst ratings, and ownership information.
